Operating System
Port Explorer has been thoroughly tested in
real-world international conditions and is compatible with
the following Microsoft«
operating systems:
For best results we recommend Windows XP/2003. Please see Operating System Specific Notes for more information. Port Explorer will not run under Windows 3.x (or earlier), Windows NT 3.x, or Windows NT 4 prior to Service Pack 4.
Performance
DiamondCS Port Explorer has been designed for maximum performance and
stability. It is multi-threaded and uses as few resources, as little memory, and
as little CPU usage as possible, and even provides a feature Port Explorer users
can activate that will move Port Explorer from memory onto the hard drive,
dramatically reducing memory usage. Laboratory testing to compare Port Explorer
to all other commercial port-to-process mapping tools showed that memory usage
is nearly always a lot less than those of similar programs under the exact same
conditions (running on the same computer, with the same number of sockets in the
background, and with the same refresh rate). Port Explorer CPU usage is
dramatically less than similar programs, and CPU usage may not even be
noticeable unless the refresh rate is on maximum (1 second). Unless Port
Explorer is crunching data to update the display it will use virtually no CPU
and will sit idle at 0% on most CPU usage monitors such as Windows Task Manager.
If you're using Port Explorer on a
particularly slow or over-loaded system, please see the Frequently
Asked Questions section for this question:
What settings can be adjusted to make Port Explorer
run more smoothly on slower computers?
